Before the appearance of BLE, some people used Wi-Fi positioning, mainly based on signal strength positioning, and BLE Beacon
positioning, its positioning accuracy is relatively poor. Since then, two other technology channels have been developed:
1. Wi-Fi AoA positioning
Cisco monster
Cisco Hyperlocation is an enhanced location solution that takes advantage of the specialized hardware that is available on the Cisco
Aironet 4800 Series wireless Access Points. It uses Angle-of-Arrival of Wi-Fi signals to determine the location of connected mobile
devices. While other technologies are using RSSI to get location within 10 meters of accuracy
2, Wi-Fi RTT ranging positioning
WiFi Fine Time Measurement (FTM)
Due to Wi-Fi FTM and other technologies are limited
1. Terminal support
2, positioning accuracy limitation, after all, it is a narrow band technology, it is impossible to obtain a good time sampling accuracy;
3, the terminal cost, Wi-Fi IOT chips have indeed been very low, but really can be used for 2B positioning solutions, basically no,
reflected in the power consumption is not good.
Therefore, Wi-Fi in the positioning of this road, than UWB accuracy is insufficient, than BLE cost and power consumption and no
advantage, so basically still stay in the signal strength based positioning state, there are not too many commercial applications.
